ESTSS Young Minds Events

ESTSS BolognaHave you got the conference of the European Society for Traumatic Stress Studies in your diary yet? It is a biannual meeting with a great mix of presentations and workshops. This year it takes place in beautiful Bologna, June 6th – 9th. The theme is “Trauma and its Clinical Pathways: PTSD and Beyond.”

It has two very nice events for early career researchers / professionals: Paper in a Day – after the success at the ISTSS meeting we now also propose it at ESTSS –  and the Young Minds Event, to share your ideas and network with renowned trauma experts.

More details are below, feel free to put any questions about the events in the comments. And please share the invitation with others who may be interested 🙂

ESTSS Paper in a Day: Saturday June 8th

The idea of Paper in a Day is to get together with a group of early-to-mid career, international researchers (advanced PhD students or finished PhD after June 2003) and write an opinion article or a commentary within one day. This will be a speedy process with a number of goals:

  • To get to know colleagues from around Europe
  • To exchange ideas about traumatic stress and recovery
  • To develop (and publish :-)) a collaborative manuscript

In short, it will be an intensive, fun and productive day. Because this event will take place on the Saturday, you will be able to continue conversations during final day of the conference and to introduce each other to colleagues. If you are presenting during the conference, the organisers will make sure that your presentations will not be scheduled on Saturday.

Program and Commitments Required
The program will run from 8:30am to 5pm and will include plenary discussions, writing time in subgroups, and breaks. The topic of the manuscript will be decided in advance based on the group’s shared interests. Because one day is very short, the following commitments will be required from participants to make the event a success:

  • To prepare in advance of the meeting, involving eight hours in the two weeks prior
  • To be present during the full day
  • To contribute to the final editing and referencing after the event, approximately a four-hour commitment.

How to Participate
If you would like to participate, please send an email to eva.alisic[at]monash[dot]edu by Sunday the 31st of March 2013, with the following information:

  1. A short CV listing your publications and main research interests, to allow a shortlisting of potential topics.
  2. A statement that you commit to the required preparation, attendance and follow-up activities as described in this invitation.

ESTSS Young Minds Event: Sunday June 9th

Right after closure of the public conference program on June 9, our first ESTSS Young Minds Event will take place from 2.30-5.30pm. In a first section, ESTSS President Prof. Brigitte Lueger-Schuster and President Elect Prof. Vedat Sar as well as further board members would like to hear what you might expect or wish from ESTSS. This will help us to shape our society and initiative according to your needs. A coffee break will give us room for informal discussions. For a second part, we will invite several renowned trauma experts to learn more about how to start a successful career in psychotraumatology.

Can we count you in? If you would like to participate of if you have any questions, please get back to Lutz Wittmann (lutzwittmann[at]web[dot]de).
